hare-brained unity is a 4-piece rock band that rose from the Shimokitazawa (下北沢) club scene. Originally from Nagasaki, the members of hare-brained unity decided to make the move to Tokyo following their graduation from high school in 1999. They did so to maximize their professional oppurtunity as musicians, by getting involved in the Shimokita and Shibuya club scenes.

hare-brained unity began finding success shortly after independently releasing their first CD, 光と影/トオイソラ (Hikari to Kage/Tooisora) in 2003, which was a duel release of those two songs. In September of 2004, hare-brained unity’s first mini album, 光-hikari- helped make their prescence known. Shortly proceeding its release, it shot to the top of the High Line Records indies chart. Riding high on their break out success, hare-brained unity embarked on their first nationwide tour, TOUR COOL&DISCO in October of 2004.

Two maxi-singles followed in 2005 and the band headed into the studio to work on their first full-length LP. In a great way to start the new year, hare-brained unity released their first album 2000’s ★★★★★ DISCO on January 25, 2006. A barrage of singles followed during the year. These releases early-in-the-year opened the door and the band began to play larger music festivals including UDO MUSIC FESTIVAL 2006, ROCK IN JAPAN FES.2006, COUNTDOWN JAPAN 06/07.

With each major release, hare-brained unity’s success and recognition seems to grow exponentially. It’ll be interesting to see how much further their popular momentum will take them.
