In the aftermath of one of the worst natural disasters in recent history, Japan has come together and shown the world its hardened resiliency and amazing generosity. These traits have carried on within its alternative music community. フィッシュマンズ (Fishmans) and a good deal of other bands have already made efforts to organize charity events and concerts. A number of artists have also taken their time to create songs made in honor of the victims and those affected by the Sendai Earthquake and Tsunami. Some of the notable examples are…

Pop-funk band the ARROWS recently released the song “Circle LR”, available for free on their official website. The song was recorded with the mindset of using as little electricity as possible.

Jazz duo orange pekoe released the song “ともしび” (Tomoshibi, Lamp).

Instrumental post-rock band toe put together a song called “Ordinary Days”, which you can download off iTunes.

Indie rock legend Mukai Shutoku (向井秀徳) of ZAZEN BOYS and Kimonos came out with this video for the song “ふるさと” (Furusato, Hometown).

Electro-master DE DE MOUSE and other artists under the DIY STARS download service put out a number of different songs under the “DIY HEARTS” initiative to aid earthquake victims.

TK of the indie rock band 凛として時雨 (Rin Toshite Shigure) put out an instrumental track “am326″, available to listen for free here.

And last, but most certainly not least, Shugo Tokumaru (トクマルシューゴ) has released a rare instrumental song called “Open a Bottle”, available for 100 yen here with all the proceeds going to aid the earthquake victims.

If you would like to add a similar song to this list, please feel free to leave a comment below with the information. And, if you are feeling generous, please check out the American Red Cross link below to make a donation.

Vola & The Oriental Machine has just released an English version of “Thank You My Force”. If I understood correctly, funds will be donated to the Japanese Red Cross Society. The song is already available on the Japanese iTunes Store (200 Â¥).
