Slowly coming out of the pixelized starfield, we are aurally assaulted by a mysterious colorful patchwork being that can only be the up-and-coming indie pop group known as モーモールルギャバン (MOWMOW LULU GYABAN). Coming out with their follow-up to last year’s major debut “クロなら結構です” (KUROnara Kekkou Desu, Thank You Black) this coming March, the band seems to be hitting their stride once again with the recent release of the groovy video for “Hello!! Mr.Coke-High”. Both the music and the video artfully captures the retro feel of the song without cutting away too much of the creative identity and addictive energy of MOWMOW LULU GYABAN that we’ve all grown to love.

I think a better translation of クロなら結構です would be “Black is OK.” It comes from the last track パンティー泥棒の唄 (The Panty Thief Song) where the panty thief in question lists all the colors of panties he likes and dislikes. Black at first is no good, but then it turns out its OK, better than nothing, since (judging by the sudden change in tempo and energy in the song) the thief was caught and has to make his getaway.

All in all, a hilarious song.

Err…thinking about it more, it could be “If they’re [the panties] are black, no thanks [I'm good/nevermind].” Maybe that’s more likely in the context of the song, but I would need to listen more closely to the rest of the lyrics. Anyway, I”m done now. :)

I love it when a band’s first single for the new album is as outsanding as this. :D I love how it transitions from a chaotic start to a beautifully spacey melody at the end. They’re great…
