The latest from DiEGOSTAR, GIG and TOO DIRECT, is an album that is shrouded in secrecy and locked away in a hidden vault in a void somewhere until its Valentine’s Day release.
Okay, perhaps that’s a foregone conclusion but the info surrounding GIG and TOO DIRECT is limited to not much more than a tracklisting and catalog number. With that sort of mystery still so near to the release date, it makes the craving for this even more intense.

If info on GIG and TOO DIRECT is so scarce than why be so excited? Well, if DiEGOSTAR’s previous release, 2007’s -colorful- is any indication of how much GIG and TOO DIRECT will rock, it’s going to be astonishing.
The eight-track GIG and TOO DIRECT was apparently recording in one night at GIG-ANTIC (ギグアンティック) in Shibuya.
DiEGOSTAR is the enigmatic trio of vocalist/guitarist Musashi Yamamoto (山本武蔵) who is the former lead singer of SEXER (the band known for performing “Heartbreak Hotel” on Mosh Pit On Disney), bassist Hajime Nakayama (中山ハジメ), and drummer Eiji Furuya (古谷エイジ). Furuya is a designer and the owner of the fashion design house, GARNI. The band formed in 2006 and are currently with XXX RECORDS.
DiEGOSTAR’s music is characterized by the combination of Yamamoto’s raspy vocals and crisp guitar alongside Nakayama’s prominent bass and Furuya’s precise and sprightly drumming that works to craft a style that sounds both fresh and classic.
The trio produces some remarkable stuff. Songs sometimes don’t go to or end in places one would expect. Whether it’s from note to note or from bar to bar, all three band members do their part to keep it funky. The result of this musical exploration and creativity sets DiEGOSTAR apart and helps define an uncommon sound.
It’s apparent that these guys aren’t young punks straight out of school and although said young punks can create some great music, DiEGOSTAR’s style of rock is a spectacle of enterprising veterans from separate backgrounds in rock coming together and doing their own thing.
So that’s where we are at. A nice, quick look into the past and what we know in order to formulate an idea of what the near future will hold. The slightly less foregone conclusion is that GIG and TOO DIRECT will in fact rock.
