BUDDHISTSON’s self-titled album is out Wednesday October 8th, 2008.
The latest from BUDDHISTSON (ブディストサン, Buddhist Son) is perhaps a release of their 2005 self-titled album but it sounds no less fresh today as it did three years ago. The album is 14 tracks of amazing.
The art/alt rock quintet’s music is composed of various sound strata. The deep, aqueous layers permeate through eachother, producing an electric blend of music both loud and beautiful. Smooth, drawn-out, and dynamics vocals float to the surface on each track. Acoustic elements such as a piano and a cello share space with electric guitars, breakbeats, and more. Different visions appear as tracks build, sometimes change direction, and circle back around.
The Kashiwa, Chiba-based band is TAKUYA SHIMA (vocals/guitar), HIROSHI YOSHII (guitar), YUMI (keyboards), YAS UENUMA (bass) and MARCY (drums). Formed in 1999 by SHIMA, MARCY, and YAS, the band’s name is derived from SHIMA’s affection for Buddha.
They released their first album, where are you going to bury the contents of your mind? in 2000. Their second full-length release, yes, but I’m alive, came in 2003. Their 2005 self-titled album was their third release. That came a year after the band formed their own record label, MUSIC FOR GORILLAS in 2004. BUDDHISTSON have toured throughout Japan and have performed all across Asia in Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia.
BUDDHISTSON, the album may be a rehash but don’t discount it. Now’s a great time to be new to the band and take advantage of the reprint.
