PhilHarmoUniQue’s gentle sound shines

A new release from PhilHarmoUniQue comes at us June 4th. While it’s their first single, the rockers already have quite a bit of experience, under another name.

PhilHarmoUnique’s first single is titled “優しい響き/輝ける場所” (Yasashii Hibiki/Kagayakeru Basho, Gentle Sound/Place that can shine).

“Yasashii Hibiki” treads softly. A rather warm song, its sound does not deviate much from the path of past PhilHarmoUniQue tracks. It ventures more into the soft rock field though. That’s similar to some tracks on the band’s first major mini-album HarmoNium. This single effort might perfect ‘that sound’ even more.

PhilHarmoUniQue is capable of laying it on pretty hard though; as is evident in “スクランブル” (Scramble) on HarmoNium (PV clip). That makes me excited to hear the other two tracks on the Yasashii Hibiki/Kagayakeru Basho single.

Originally named 自由人 (Jiyuu Jin, Freeman), The band formed in Nagoya in 2002. In 2004, they released their first mini-album and album. A second mini-album followed in ‘05. 自由人 changed their name to PhilHarmoUniQue in May ‘07. HarmoNium came out three months later in August.

PhilHarmoUniQue (フィルハーモユニーク) is vocalist/guitarist Gorokawa Takayoshi (五郎川陸快), guitarist Hara Takuma (原拓馬), bassist Iwaizumi Shinya (今泉慎也), and drummer Nakamura Satoshi (中村聡志). They’re currently signed to OORONG RECORDS.
