The latest from the all-girl rock band つしまみれ (TsuShiMaMiRe), つしまみれとロックとビアで (Tsushimamire to Rock to Beer de) was released on May 21st.

Since their formation in 1999 the girls have produced a handful of albums including a few US/Canada releases. Tsushimamire to Rock to Beer de is their second mini album. It’s seven tracks of vibrant and vigorous rock fun.

With such humorous song titles as “おじいちゃんのおズボン” (Grandpa’s slacks) and “アメリカのハンバーガー” (American Hamburger), TsuShiMaMiRe’s strange playfulness radiates outward from the start.

TsuShiMaMiRe is Mari (vocals, guitar), Yayoi (bass, chorus), and Mizue (drums, chorus). The band’s music is a fusion of “punk, avant garde, free jazz, ska, surf, and funk,” according to them. They released their first demo in 2001 and in 2004 toured across America, playing at South by Southwest (SXSW) for their first time. They’ve since joined a number of US tours with other all-girl bands from Japan. In 2006, TsuShiMaMiRe played on the Japan Nite US TOUR which also featured ELLEGARDEN, STANCE PUNKS, PE’Z, The Rodeo Carburettor, and THE EMERALDS.

The best thing about Tsushimamire to Rock to Beer de and other TsuShiMaMiRe releases is that they’re available on all sorts of versions of iTunes, including the US one.
