PlayTalk’s take on the microblog

PlayTalk and Me2day are like the Korean cousins of Jaiku and Twitter, but one attempts to go beyond the confines of Wikipedia-defined microblogging.

While Me2day seems to focus on perfecting the ‘core’ of the microblog, PlayTalk takes things a bit further — it’s like Twitter meets CyWorld.

PlayTalk “is a microblog based social network service, limiting posts to 250 characters. This is a great way to meet friends and keep up on what they are doing,” according to them.

The site doesn’t stop at the simple microblog though. As the name suggests, the site attempts to make microblogging more fun by adding some depth to it. Users can attach photos and YouTube videos to posts, comment on others’, send email, and add applications as well as other social network-y things.

PlayTalk apps include in-house services like a photo gallery, diary (blog minus the micro prefix), events, bookmarks and more. Users can also import info from blogs, Flickr, YouTube, and Skype accounts as well as add PlayTalk apps to other services like Facebook and MSN.

The coolest part is that PlayTalk is available in four languages: Korean, English, Japanese, and Chinese. Unlike CyWorld, each language version is not a seperate site on a different server. This means that you can connect with users across all languages all around the globe. The site is all AJAXified too!

  1. The pinkish icon is very cute. It sounds very powerful compared to Twitter. However it is currently offline for maintenance. Will check back when it’s online and ready.

  2. I like the icon too!! There’s a lot it can do it seems, and you can use it for basics or many other things, so the choice is nice :) Hope it’s back online soon :P
