BACK DROP BOMB’s name fits. The power and kick that the rockers deliver is unavoidable, in your face, and they simply rock. This explosive is unique; it isn’t quick or punctual, rather it sustains for quite some time – for an entire song or better yet, a complete album.
BACK DROP BOMB is currently Takayoshi Shirakawa (vocals), Masashi Ojima (vocals), Jin Tanaka (guitar), and Toshiki Kagohashi (bass) and the band originally formed in 1994. They’ve worked with such artists as HUSKING BEE and DJ Hasebe and have been signed with TOY’S FACTORY since 1999.Venometeoric is the band’s 5th full-length album.

BACK DROP BOMBs music is suprisingly difficult to define and their latest release furthers that notion. Blending elements of hip-hop, hardcore, reggae, and more, the boundaries are still sketchy. Venometeoric’s 13 tracks showcase dueling vocals, heavily distorted guitar, huge basslines, and the like. Each track — and the entire album for that matter — plays like a self-sustaining explosion, with the only breathing room during the all-too-quick transitions. That’s not to say that everything on Venometeoric is fast and railing. Speedy and chaotic songs fit between slower ones yet the intensity never yields. It’s too easy to forget that “intense” is not interchangeable with “fast”.
The mixing on BACK DROP BOMB’s Venometeoric either makes or breaks it, leaving things to a matter of preference really. Vocals’ volume often don’t pop above the rest of the song and transitions are abrupt. The latter is refreshing though, catching the listener off guard and on the edge.
The album begins by blowing up in your face with “GREAT VIEW” and “TOKIO ON THE HORSE” before things settle down a bit. Tracks like “NOBODY GETS IT~The Beginning Of Conga~” and “THE KNIGHT” mix things up with a more melodic guitar and instrumental, respectively. Venometeoric’s INTRO and OUTRO really jam and were contributed by DJ WATARAI.
