The Japanese rock band The Birthday blends both old and new in multiple ways.

The Birthday was formed in 2006 by a group of veteran rockers. Lead by frontman Chiba Yusuke, the former lead singer of Thee Michelle Gun Elephant and vocalist for ROSSO, The Birthday has decades of rock experience under their belts.

Vocalist Chiba is joined by fellow former TMGE member, drummer Kuhara Kazuyuki, guitarist Imai Akinobi (ROSSO, Friction), and bassist Hirai Haruki (TERURU). The project is a new bond among rock vets.

The Birthday’s music is much alike their background. Each member brings his respective musical background to the table but that’s not to say that each’s is very different. The band’s sound is a gritty mixture of garage and old rock sound which is emphasized by Chiba’s loud, gravelly vocals.

The Birthday recently released their 2nd album, TEARDOP.
