SUEMITSU “Plays Mean Piano”

It seems like many pianists who are good musicians, songwriters, and vocalists can often find much success in the realm of popular music. Suemitsu Atsushi (末光篤), aka: SUEMITSU & THE SUEMITH posseses those “good” abilities and more.

SUEMITSU in ROCKIN’ON JAPAN Magazine

Originally from Hiroshima, the graduate of Nagoya Music University has recently burst into the pop music scene. With his classically-trained skills and talent, Suemitsu brings something fresh to the stage along with his Steinway & Sons grand piano. SUEMITSU & THE SUEMITH beautifully blends elements of classical, pop, and rock with the likes of “Billy Joel chords” and more. This combination produces a distict and recognizable musical semblance that is uniquely “SUEMITSU”.

SUEMITSU & THE SUEMITH first gained notoreity when he participated in the 2004 project, MOSH PIT ON DISNEY, a collaborative collection of Disney song covers from various artists such including ACIDMAN, the band apart, DOPING PANDA, BEAT CRUSADERS, and more, including Suemitsu. On that album he simply went by the name, The Suemith, and performed a cover of “Part of Your World” from The Little Mermaid.

His 2006 debut album, “Man Here Plays Mean Piano” A New Edition 4 Sony Music was a re-release of 2005 indies release of the name quoted. Since then, SUEMITSU & THE SUEMITH has continually released singles, four to-date.

Of those four singles, my two favorites are “Astaire” and “Sunday’z Sun”. Watch the PVs and enjoy…

  1. wow astaire is a very cheerful song, it pumps me with positive energy. it’s wonderful how all the intsruments blend together so well. usually piano and strings are used for sad songs but this time around it’s such an upbeat song. wonderrrrrful!

  2. I see talent indeed. Sunday’z Sun sounds especially good when I’m listening to it on a Sunday morning. Starts my day off.
