Know the tune but not the title?
By Shay • Feb 2nd, 2007 • Category: More, Technology, internet, musicHave you ever had a song stuck in your head that you didn’t know the title of?
The folks and midomi.com are here to help you. While it’d be most useful for them to somehow magically erase the tune from your mind, they do the other best thing: help you find out the name of the song.

midomi’s “Voice Search” function uses Flash to record your voice and then pins it up against the songs in the database to find the best match. It’s really slick!
It took me a while to get the hang of things. Initially, I wasn’t finding anything since my voice recording samples were too short. Officially, midomi recommend humming or singing the song’s melody for at least 10 seconds for optimal results.
The song that I tried out was Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here”. I did my best to sing the first chorus and ‘lo’ and behold, the first result that popped up was the correct song.
Obviously and unfortunatly, Japanese music is not included. midomi is a great idea and I hope it’ll catch on in other countries (cough, Japan) so that way, I can find out the title of some of those infectious pop songs that I sometimes come across. The only question that I have is: what happens to all of those horrid recordings of me singing once I’m finished searching?
midomi.com, check it out and give it a try!
