“Live Goes On” for SEAMO

A couple of nights of watching Japanese celebrity pop jam-type shows sort of payed off. I guess you could say that, granted that one of the shows seemed dreadfully overpopulated with Johnny’s Entertainment acts. During my stay in Japan I came to realize how many popular musicians/singers that I don’t like though. I’d name names but I’d get so annoyed that I would forget who I’m supposed to talk about. With that known, I feel that the popular acts that I do in fact like warrant more of my enthusiasm.

Of these popular artists, it was a rapper named SEAMO (シーモ, Shiimo) who I saw and actually liked. I saw him on two seperate televised occasions and both times he performed his mega-hit song “マタアイマショウ” (”Mata aimashou”, “Let’s Meet Again”). I couldn’t help but be impressed by the song’s melody. No wonder why it’s spent 36 weeks and counting on the Oricon singles chart. While “マタアイマショウ” never broke into the chart’s Top 10, its long-lasting consistency seems well-deserved.

A native of Nagoya, SEAMO (Naoki Takada) reached “popular” status following his collaboration with the female hip-hop duo Bennie K, in their song, “a love song” (I actually had the pleasure of seeing Bennie K live in-concert at Countdown Japan 06/07 but I’ll save that for another post).

While in Japan I was able to pick up a copy of SEAMO’s latest LP, Live Goes On. While “マタアイマショウ” (and it’s Orchestral version counterpart) is obviously my favorite song on the album, it’s safe to say that I enjoy every song. Most of the other songs on the release, tracks such as “Twilight Gemini”, “Golden Time”, and “ANTI HERO” ooze catchiness around their edges.

There’s music in your future,

Considering SEAMO’s popularity I’m suprised that I hadn’t heard of him sooner. That’s fine though, at least I know of him now, shortly after the release of his album. Check out his hit song “マタアイマショウ”:

  1. Cool cool dude. Nice Layout! Haha, I have actually been listening to マタアイマショウ in my ride for quite a few months now. Yet again, another chiller song!

  2. Thanks. Haha yeah, I don’t know where I was on this one. At least his full-length album is more recent than the “マタアイマショウ” single, haha. I at least feel better about that. Indeed, it’s a great song to chill out to. ^^
