Being an American baseball fan, I was hooked to this year’s World Series between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Detroit Tigers. Being a Cardinals fan, I was delighted at their victory.
Likewise, during this past week the Japan Series was held between the Nippon Ham Fighters and the Chunichi Dragons. The Fighters were victorious and won their first Pro Yakyu title since 1962.
In case you were wondering, it’s Nippon Ham, Fighters. Nippon Ham is a meat packing company that sponsors the Fighters. I was even initially perplexed. Traditionally, The Fighters have sort of been the LA Clippers of Japanese baseball. They shared the Tokyo Dome with the much more renound Yomiuri Giants. In 2003, the franchise moved to Sapporo on the northern island of Hokkaido.
In this showdown between Pacific (Fighters) and Central (Dragons, from Nagoya) leagues, the Pacific league victors prevailed as Japan Series champs. Fighters’ Outfielder Atsunori Inaba won MVP honors.

mmmm… ham.
people keep asking me about baseball back in america and I’m like “uhh i have no idea, we watch football where I’m from”. then they get all sad and disappointed looking, so I quickly just throw in something i pulled from my ass like “but matsui’s having a great season” or something then they get happy and walk away, leaving me feeling strangely empty and un-american inside ;)

haha good story Michael. =P don’t worry, if you’re from a place where football is biggest, that’s pretty Amercan, haha. That’s funny about mentioning Matsui too. Now that the Cards one, I hope people know who So Taguchi is. ^_^

Dammit! Should of been the Hanshin Tigers! But I say that because I’m a hardcore Tora-kichi……..well maybe one day Colonel Sanders we will win the Nippon Championship.
Well done though Fighters! Better than the Dragons winning at least! (and Yu Darvish isn’t too rough on the eyes either *smirks)

Yeah, the Tigers are cool! One of my friends is a HUGE Hanshin Tigers fan. I’ve yet to decide my favorite team though…since I know people who are Tigers fans and some who are Giants fans. >.> Who to please? haha…ah screw it! GO ORIX BUFFALOES. =P

Way to go Fighters…Great job Mr.Trey Hillman I sure wish we had you back here in the U.S. Namely (Texas Rangers) so I could come see ya! Good luck and congratulations on the 2006 title…never had any doubts!God Bless!
