The Mainichi Daily News online has come up with a brilliant yet simple idea. It’s called ‘Manglish’ – manga in English.

Mainichi’s Manglish is an online manga reader. The visitor can view an original manga issue in Japanese and hover over the text bubbles to read the translation in English. This is done quite easily by means of a hover-over ‘tooltip’ javascript and an image map over the page illustration.

Manglish is cool since it allows the reader to see the original page in its entirety AND read it in English. The current featured manga include titles such as A Six Feet Girl, Flash of Genius! Pikatto-kun, Ichigo de Go!, Platonic Supernova, Tears of a Crow, and Shinobu the Ninja Legend. The Manglish database is frequently updated with new titles and issues.

Consider me a fan but I ask: why didn’t I think of this?

Let’s read some Manglish!
