Halloween…ghosts, ghouls, witches, goblins, and The Candy Spooky Theater. Besides trick-or-treating and going to haunted houses, there seems to be no better way to celebrate Halloween than listening to Halloween-ish rock music. Enter The Candy Spooky Theater, a Japanese rock band whose music and style are based upon horror, Halloween, and Tim Burton flicks.
I’m no fan of ‘visual kei’ but I can dig The Candy Spooky Theater. The trio (Jack Spooky, Zull, and Peggy) create a unique blend of rock and horror that leave me intriged and disturbed. Their music often goes back-and-forth between gothic J-Rock and stereotypical Halloween diddies– complete with scream samples.
The band has been around since 2003 and has released 4 MAXI singles: Pumpkins Scream In The Dead Of Night Parade, Murder Land, Wonderland, and the most recent The Bedroom.
Their schtick works for fans and the curious alike. That makes The Candy Spooky Theater a fitting listen for Halloween season…and any other time of the year if you so desire…gotta love a Halloween-themed band from a country that doesn’t even celebrate the holiday.
