Glorious Galneryus
By Shay • Mar 11th, 2006 • Category: Japan, Reviews, musicI’ve found another Japanese rock band to add to my list of favorites. The band is Galneryus, a Japanese power metal band. I was able to get my hands on their 2005 release, “Advance to the Fall”. I must stress how much I enjoy their music.
After a first listen, they sort of reminded me of a modern X-Japan. If that comparasion is accurate, it’s no wonder why I like Galneryus, being a big X-Japan fan. Their music is quite heavy and fast, but not so extreme to turn off casual listeners. Galneryus is able to remain melodic through guitar solos, synths, and lead vocals. Galneryus is Yama-b (vox), Syu (guitar), Tsui (bass), Yuhki (keyboards), and Satoh (drums).
Their most recent album, “Advance to the Fall” provides a wide array of powerful, rocking songs. Their sound ranges from nice piano solos to heavily distorted power chords, to ripping guitar solos. I particularly like the sound of guitar in the solos. The effect is really interesting and almost synth-like sometimes.
Among my favorite songs on the cd are “Glorious Aggressor”, “Silent Revelation”, and “The Scenery”, with the latter being my overall favorite.

Never heard of them, I do not usually follow the Japanese music scene, but when I was growing up my Japanese cousin used to send all sort of music, this was the 80s…he loved a band called Loudness and YMO. Ever heard of them?

don’t expect anything close to galneryus listening to YMO (yellow magic orchestra) ;) great stuffs though (loudness, galneryus, and YMO)

YMO is fusion/70s electro style à-la kratwerk somehow (though compositionally it isn’t kraftwerk at all) & all the members have been very influencial in the past & present of japanese and international music..
