Well, it’s about time that Japan wins an Olympic medal at these 2006 Winter Games. And what a way to win a medal, a gold medal. Japan’s Shizuka Arakawa skated to win gold in Women’s Figure Skating on Thursday, February, 23.
Arakawa won gold, followed by American Sasha Cohen, and Russian Irina Slutskaya. Shizuka Arakawa was 3rd before her final ‘free skate’ performace.
Overall the Japanese women did quite well. Fumie Suguri finished in 4th overall. 18 year-old Miki Ando turned in a more dissapointing performance and finished 15th. I was hoping that she would do good though considering that I really enjoyed her first ‘short program’ performance. She had mishaps but it was nice to see her skate to the music of Ryuichi Sakamoto, “Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence”.
As for Men’s Figure Skating which ended last week, Japanese skater Daisuke Takahashi made his Olympic debut and finished 8th. Many say that he offers much promise for the future.

Interesting post. I came across this blog by accident, but it was a good accident. I have now bookmarked your blog for future use. Best wishes. Sasha Cohen.
