Mail order a wife, get paid

After countless efforts, have you still failed to find the right woman? Has the local rural village social scene gotten boring? Want some extra cash? Boy, here’s a good deal for you. Kyongsang officials plan to pay you money to get a mail order bride. Over $6,000 dollars to be more precise.
This comes after many feel that farmers have a hard time finding women. Apparently, a life consisting of farming in the countryside does not appeal to many Korean women.
In an effort to see more married farmers Kyongsang officials will offer a cash incentive to farmers who mail order a bride. Most mail order bride candidates for the Korean farmers come from China and Vietnam. This is silly.

This is an interesting step, because Korean culture is rather nationalistic (*cough* racist *cough*). Encouraging miscegenation is an interesting, and actually hopeful, development.
Yeah this is kind of a ridiculous incentive program really. It’s more about urbanization than anything I think. Korean women just aren’t into living in the sticks on a farm anymore. That and the neo-Confucianism around here is still rearing its ugly head with families still preferring baby boys over girls. Ain’t demographics a b*tch?
