Mail order a wife, get paid

Are you a South Korean farmer who lives in Kyongsang Province? Are you lonely? After countless efforts, have you still failed to find the right woman? Has the local rural village social scene gotten boring? Want some extra cash? Boy, here’s a good deal for you. Kyongsang officials plan to pay you money to get a mail order bride. Over $6,000 dollars to be more precise.

Bride in a Box

This comes after many feel that farmers have a hard time finding women. Apparently, a life consisting of farming in the countryside does not appeal to many Korean women.

In an effort to see more married farmers Kyongsang officials will offer a cash incentive to farmers who mail order a bride. Most mail order bride candidates for the Korean farmers come from China and Vietnam. This is silly.

    I wonder if it’s possible to get them to extend that deal to americans.

    This is an interesting step, because Korean culture is rather nationalistic (*cough* racist *cough*). Encouraging miscegenation is an interesting, and actually hopeful, development.

    Yeah this is kind of a ridiculous incentive program really. It’s more about urbanization than anything I think. Korean women just aren’t into living in the sticks on a farm anymore. That and the neo-Confucianism around here is still rearing its ugly head with families still preferring baby boys over girls. Ain’t demographics a b*tch?
